big sky country.
Friday, July 9, 2010 at 1:03AM Growing up my family spent a lot of time in Montana, so when the CTA is covered with visit Montana ads, I take notice.

The amazing photography, minimal copy, and great type make this campaign. I'll be interested to see if other offices of tourism pick up on the simplicity.
In my book, Montana nailed it — they even have twitter account with useful information. Watch and learn: @visitmontana

I actually wasn't crazy about this campaign. The photography was eye poppingly good and (rightfully) took center stage, but I felt like the treatment of the type really missed the mark in more than a few of the applications. However, what really got me was the way they interacted as a whole in a subway car or when juxtaposed with other parts of the campaign, which happened a lot when they bought out entire cars! It often felt really awkward in those instances. As for the type, perhaps one could make an argument that tracking it out like they did was meant to reflect the wide open spaces of Big Sky Country, but, for me, the image does that more than adequately. That all said, I'd still love to go! :)
