pinning.
Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:15PM I hesitantly signed up for Pinterest while I was lounging around home over the holidays. My mom was/is obsessed with it, so I thought I'd give it a try (even though I was a huge Svpply fan at the time).

Svpply and Pinterest are alike in that they are both visual bookmarking services, however Svpply is more of a collection of products — things to buy or add to the "want" list — stuff that comes with a price tag, stuff I don't need or feel much use in drooling over. Hello, I'm a broke college student.
Pinterest, on the other hand, tends to be collections of recipes, home projects & crafts, and general inspiration. Personally, I like to bookmark pink things. Professionally, I like to bookmark logo and interface design. I've even started a board for future vacations. The simple platform they've set up really has the potential to be a collection of whatever links the user wants it to be.

Pinterest is social, allowing for comments, likes, and repins. You can easily follow your Facebook contacts and any other person out there on the pinning forefront. They've been able to competitively generate traffic and revenue, something most startups don't reach so early on — those smarty pants!
I didn't exactly want to love Pinterest, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a fan! If you're not on it, I say give it a try. And if you're already on board, you can follow me here. Happy pinning!

I agree. Pinterest is far too addictive. It seems to reflect general trends like crafts and DIY but goes beyond that... there are many boards that pin "inspirational" quotes and saying along with more cynical variations on the theme. Lots of green garden pins, food porn and, of course, home design options.
